NEW STUFF

welcome to dusty.com. i am not sure that the web address is actually "dusty.com", but my name is dusty, and everything cool seems to have a .com behind it. i'm not saying that i am cool, i'm just saying that i would like to be. besides, most things that have a .com behind them are broke now, and for the most part, i am pretty broke. so it fits.   my name is dusty, i play chess, i write, and often times i do projects. i want to introduce you to three of my current projects.

project one : quadrangular chronicle

my first project is my diary books project. what i have done is construct a wooden box that holds four book inserts. these four books will have blank pages for three hundred sixty-five journal entries. the books were given to four different people on the first of january. these four people will write in the their book until they are tired of writing, or feel inspired to give it to someone else. thus, each of the four books will take on its own path. with each person writing what they felt was significant for that day. hopefully, all four books will return to the box. then each can be read separately or together for a particular day.

what i am trying to accomplish with this project is to show how different each persons view of reality can be. while at the same time, how unified and how similar we really are. there will be times, i would imagine, that one or two of the people are writing about the same thing, possibly three or even four. what could possibly happen that could unify four different people writing from four different places?

for more information on the my diary project feel free to browse www.quadrangularchronicle.com. that is where the book idea is located. its not really as difficult as it looks quadrangle means four sided. like a triangle, just bigger. and chronicle is another word for a story, account, or tale. thus, the quadrangle chronicle.

project two : notes to self

my second project also deals with words and time as an art. time has become very precious to me. i have learned to respect its wonder and power. my father used to say, "how do you eat an elephant?" the answer is, "one bite at a time." i still have not eaten an elephant, and it would probably be all rotten by the time i got even half way through. nevertheless, the point is that with time, and patience, almost anything is possible.

my second project i am writing a letter every day and sending it to myself. i type one full piece of paper, front and back, about a thousand words, and send it out in the mail, stamped, postmarked, and all, to myself. actually, i send it to a mailbox on tompkins road, where i used to get the mail when i was a younger person. right now i don't live there, and haven't for a short while. but it is my families home and has been there for quite a few years, and i'm hoping it will be there for quite a few more.

anyway, sometimes i tend to ramble. here are digital copies of some of the letters that i send to myself. hopefully, long after the digital versions are gone, the stamped and metered versions will be safely sealed with my thoughts and ideas.

this project has expanded to include an installation of the collection of the first year of letters. Here are a few photographs of the installation. thanks to everyone who helped out, i will never be able to thank you enough.

project three : animations

i've receintly started making animated shorts. they range anywhere from one second to fifty-seven seconds. right now they are still in the experimental phase, where i am creating a series of tests to try and get the lighting and the motion down. once i've figured that out i am planning on attempting a short that is longer. i've been using soft pastels on a chalkboard and taking photographs of the board every sixty seconds. each test is relatively different.

i have also written an attempt at a brief bio. not that i am so complex that it is hard to write a bio, but the simple fact that i am just now starting to understand who dusty is. believe me, i didn't have a clue for many years. this is full of some of my stories that i have written, some of my poetry, and some of my artwork. "all this, in a web page!" you say. "but how much does it cost?" and if i say free you are not going to believe me.

be good.
